The “Scandinavian Atlas of Historic Towns” project was promoted by the Danish Committee for Urban History (http://byhistorie.dk/en/committee/), founded in 1971 with the aim of promoting historical research into Danish cities and strengthening Denmark’s participation in the international project of the «Commission Internationale pour l’histoire des villes» (CIHV).
The “Scandinavian Atlas of Historic Towns” goes beyond the national dimension. Includes Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Iceland.
